About the Foundation

The University of Memphis Research Foundation is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation chartered in 2006 in the State of Tennessee. It is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

 

The purpose of the Foundation is to benefit the University of Memphis by promoting its objectives of providing higher education, conducting research, providing public service and assisting in economic development in Tennessee.

 

To further these objectives, the Foundation facilitates the acquisition of sponsored research funds, holds and manages intellectual property assets on behalf of the University, promotes the transfer of University technologies to appropriate partners for further development and commercialization, and operates the UMRF Research Park. In addition, the Foundation has a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary, UMRF Ventures, Inc.

Public Information Policy:

The Foundation is incorporated as a nonprofit and is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The relationship between the Foundation and the University is set out under a written agreement that expressly recognizes the Foundation as a separate and distinct legal entity and not an agent of the University. The Foundation respects the rights of donors to keep their gifts and personal information private.
